Our Scout section is extremely active and currently has 24 Scouts and 4 leaders. We meet on a Tuesday evening during school term-times, from 18:30 – 20:30. We usually meet at the Scout Hut, but we regularly organise activities away from the hut as well, both in the local area and further afield.
Scouts take part in a varied programme of activities throughout the year, with an emphasis on traditional Scouting skills (including camping, survival, navigation, first aid and cooking), adventurous activities (such as cycling, kayaking, archery and hiking), and learning about the world around them. The Scouts have the opportunity to work towards many activity badges and awards if they want to, and we are there to help them along the way. We aim to give the Scouts opportunities to try new activities – over the last few years we have been dry slope skiing, SCUBA diving and go karting to name but a few! Finally, we play an active part in the local community and aim to help other people where we can.
Being outdoors is an extremely important part of Scouting, especially in the age of smart phones and social media. We focus a lot on developing the Scouts’ leadership and teamworking skills, and we give them the space to develop their own individual personalities and make friends in a safe and unpressured environment.
New Scouts are invested into the section a few weeks after first joining, at which point they make their Scout Promise. We encourage all Scouts to abide by this promise and to live by the values contained within the Scout Law, both in and out of Scouts.
